The Canadian government is dishing out millions of dollars to help researchers solve some of the country's biggest housing and infrastructure problems, the AP reports.
The Research and Knowledge Initiative, a joint effort by Canada's Department of Housing and Infrastructure and the World Council on City Data, is divvying up more than $50 million in funding between 2019 and 2024 to support projects that include " piloting innovative ways to increase new housing starts; assessing how changing environmental conditions affect region-specific infrastructure needs; understanding successful strategies that have generated positive infrastructure and housing outcomes in at-risk communities; or evaluating how international best practices could support community resiliency and improved quality of life in Canadian communities," the department said in a statement.
The Canadian Press reports the money will go toward "community data and research to Inform Public Infrastructure Decision-making," which the government says will "support all orders of government and communities across Canada to mobilize new ideas and practices, and to take evidence-based actions that make our communities stronger."
