The Mayor of Detroit, Duggan, has a new plan to help spur business growth. The plan is called Motor City Match, and is being praised for its efforts to improve the city. it involves using tax money to give small businesses grants to help get their project off the ground. Some of the recipients received over 30,000 which was to open stores or renovate the space. The program has given over a million dollars out since it began.
There is also a program to help building owners with small, efficient spaces to rent them to potential clients and for the clients to find good deals on spaces. The research has shown that a lot of the money goes to minorities, and most is in the Detroit metro area. There is another round of applications being taken in the month of June.
