The city of Crookston, Minn., has applied for a $50,000 grant to pay for solar panels.
The Crookston Housing and Economic Development Authority applied for the money through the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency's Climate Action Grant program, which offers cities up to $50,000 to help combat climate change.
"This is up to $50,000 where you can look at different projects to help your cities, so we are considering a couple of options," says EDA Director Karie Kirschbaum, per the Grand Forks Herald.
"One of them is to put solar panels up by Valley Tech to help offset our electric bills and to keep our tax dollars down so we don't have to pay quite as much, and we're considering a couple of other options," she adds.
Valley Tech is a community college in Crookston.
The college plans to install solar panels on its roof, and the city will pay for them out of its own funds.
"We just wanted approval to move forward once we identify the project," Kirschbaum says.
