Solomon Arase is a retired Nigerian police officer who served as the 18th Inspector General of Police.
He's also a well-known philanthropist.
On June 21, Arase celebrates his birthday, and in honor of his birthday, the Solomon Ehigiator Arase Foundation gives out scholarships to students and children of members of the Nigeria Police.
The foundation was started by Arase's mother, Mercy Igbe-Arase, who wanted her son to continue her legacy and honor her memory, the Guardian reports.
"Knowledge is the only enduring asset one can acquire in one's lifetime, the only wealth worth pursuing and the bedrock for the attainment of self-esteem and excellence in all endeavours," she said, per a press release from the foundation.
