A new program in Kansas aims to help small towns connect with each other through the arts, the Topeka Capital-Journal reports.
Called Placemaking for Innovative Communities, it's a collaboration between the Kansas Creative Arts Industries Commission, the Kansas Department of Commerce, and the Patterson Family Foundation.
"The arts enrich communities and enhance the quality of life all across Kansas," Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of Commerce David Toland says in a press release.
"By strategically harnessing increasing partnerships, communities can hone their unique identities to become more competitive as families choose where to put down their roots and do business."
Eight towns in south-central Kansas will be participating in the pilot program, which will work with artists, community leaders, and arts organizations to come up with creative solutions to problems in their communities.
"By strategically harnessing increasing partnerships, communities can hone their unique identities to become more competitive as families choose where to put down their roots and do business," Toland says.
